The Fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays (right up there with Christmas)! I love hosting a fun outdoor BBQ with family and friends and love decorating with all the patriotic things. If you’re planning a pool party BBQ this year, here are some tips to make the day extra special!

Invite

First things first… Invite! Although 4th of July is only a week away (I’m a little late to get this post up for invitations BUT we do offer printable/digital files on our Etsy shop here so never too late to throw together a last minute party!)

Food

You can’t have a pool party without plenty of food. Our favorite things to do for 4th of July are grilling burgers, hot dogs, and chicken. For sides, you can’t go wrong with the classic BBQ fare foods like coleslaw, potato salad, and corn on the cob. Chips and dip are always a hit, too. And for dessert, you can’t go wrong with a patriotic cake, cupcakes or my personal favorite cookies!

Drinks

Keep your guests cool and hydrated with plenty of drinks. Offer a variety of options, including water, soda, and lemonade. For adults, consider making a big batch of sangria or margaritas. And don’t forget the beer and wine!

Games

No pool party is complete without some fun games. Set up a giant wooden four-in-a-row game or a tic-tac-toe game with stars and stripes for that patriotic twist. Cornhole is always a hit around here, too. And for those who just want to relax, provide some pool floats and encourage your guests to take a dip (always have extra towels on hand for guests that may have forgotten theirs).

Decorations

Set the mood for your party with some festive decorations. Red, white, and blue plates, cups, and napkins are a great way to add some patriotic flair. Hang some string lights or paper lanterns for a cozy ambiance. And don’t forget to provide plenty of sunscreen and bug spray for your guests.
